As most students return to school this week in Vancouver, I am thinking of the role of parent. I have been at many a school event where I have watched the parents as much as I’ve watched the students. Same goes for school awards presentations. There is nothing like the look on a parent’s face when they are watching their child. The joy and the love are palpable. Hopefully you have or have had a parent like this in your life. If your cheerleader wasn’t your parent, hopefully you had someone else who filled that role. We all need cheerleaders, especially for tough times: like when we feel we don’t have any friends, when we aren’t one of the ones on stage or getting the awards. And not just in childhood. Throughout life as well. Who are the cheerleaders in your life?
